Why 5 SMS per Day Limits in North India, due to Assam Violence. If you are reading this means you are also suffering from the 5 SMS per day ban.
In India, from 18th August 2012, till 1st of September, you would not be able to send more than 5 sms per day. TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has banned bulk SMS and MMS for 15days. All the Cellphone operators have been asked to block all bulk SMSes and videos so that no one can send a message to more than five people at a time as for a national security. However this 15-day ban on bulk SMS and MMS will create a huge loss to many telecommunication companies.
The 5 SMS per day ban is due to the reports of threatening messaging via various means to the North-Eastern people living in cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. These threatening messages were sent via e-mails, SMS, MMS and posts on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.
These messages have spread rumours (misleading information) about threats of attacks to North-Eastern people and the Assam violence due to which the North-Eastern people living in Chennai, Pune Bungaluru, and other such cities are fledding back to there homes.
The Home Ministry had asked various service providers to stop transfer more than 20KB of MMS data. Under the Bulk SMS ban, cellphone users won’t be able to send above 5 SMSs in a day and no MMS data transfer above 20KB. The TRAI has banned upto only 5 SMS per day under the ‘Person to person Restriction Policy‘.
